He worked as a marine biologist from 1984–1987. In 1987 Hillenburg decided to pursue a career in animation, his second lifelong passion. He made several short films, two of which were awarded and played in animation film festivals internationally. His two short films The Green Beret (1991) and Wormholes (1992) became popular shorts in several. While still attending animation school, Hillenburg received a job on the children's TV series Mother Goose & Grimm from 1991 to 1993. When attending the California Institute of the Arts he made his thesis film called 'Wormholes'. Hillenburg displayed his films at various animation festivals. Joe Murray, creator of Rocko's Modern Life, met Hillenburg at an animation festival and asked Hillenburg if he would be a director on the show, to which he agreed. Hillenburg joined the Nickelodeon animated series as a writer, producer, and storyboard artist.

In 1998, Hillenburg pitched the show to Nickelodeon, using an aquarium, character models, a theme song and the storyboard that would become the pilot episode, Help wanted The main character's name was originally "SpongeBoy", but since the name was copyrighted, he changed it to Spongebob Nickelodeon executives bought the pitch and the series premiered in July 1999. Karen, Plankton's computer wife on the show, is named after Stephen Hillenburg's wife.

SpongeBob brings home a wild jellyfish and has a big party at night 12 hours as Squidward says. However, he learns that wild animals can throw very wild parties, even after the master has gone to bed. More jellyfish come and throw a party for the next 6 hours. Spongebob constantly tries to stop the party but fails. Squidward decides to play his worst on his clarinet. The jellyfish get mad and start stinging Spongebob. After he asks Squidward to play a little better, Squidward plays into a microphone. The jellyfish then go and sting Squiward. Squidward gives his clarinet to Spongebob saying they won't be hearing from him anymore. The jellyfish break the clarinet, set it on fire and dance around it. Spongebob tries to throw out the CD player and the jelly fish try to take it back. They end up breaking it and the jellyfish get furious. Gary taps his eyes together creating a beat and the jellyfish dance. On the way to jellyfish fields, more beats begin by other objects and the jelly fish continue to dance. SpongeBob becomes the hall monitor at boating school, much to Mrs. Puff's dismay and terror. He spends the entire day giving an acceptance speech, so Mrs. Puff lets him keep the hall monitor gear on until the next day. After class, he still thinks he is the hall monitor. SpongeBob attempts to help people all over Bikini Bottom, which only leads, as usual, to chaos. At a broken red light, Spongebob becomes some sort of crossing guard and cause a major accident. But he doesn't seem to notice. He finds a house with an open window and believes he must show them the dangers of leaving a window open. He breaks in through the window and scares them away hoping they "learned their lesson." He then arrests Patrick after Patrick "litters" by spilling his ice cream. After a paperboy reports of a maniac Spongebob believes its his duty to capture him not knowing it was himself. Patrick decides to help, putting his ice cream cone on his head as "a symbol of his authority." The police give Patrick a picture of Spongebob as the maniac. He sees Spongebob and warns him that the maniac is where he is, not knowing the maniac is Spongebob. He keeps telling Spongebob to go places and confuses him by saying that the maniac was there too. Spongebob realizes he's the maniac and the police arrest him. Mrs. Puff says he's her responsibility and is arrested. She teaches on a Tv and tells Spongebob she wants to see him after class, "six months from now."

In this game, you get to play this unusual ocean floor game as either Spongebob or his thrill-seeking squirrel friend, Sandy Cheeks. The object of the game is to shuffle your jellyfish towards the end of the board and land on the markers to score maximum points. You can even play head to head with a friend in the two-player mode. Use your mouse to control the strength of your push by lengthening or shortening the arrow. Don't push to far because you can lose points if your jellyfish hits the negative markers. Keep an eye on the water vane and use the currents to direct your jellyfish. Try to aim for the starfish that pop on the board: Blue starfish multiply your score, Yellow starfish awards you extra turns and White starfish wins you extra points, but watch out for those -10 scores.
The graphics in this game are excellent. They're bright, well rendered, and pleasant to the eye. Though the game looks like it would be extremely easy to beat, it's actually quite challenging.

The game itself opens with Patrick Star and SpongeBob SquarePants delivering a truckload of several million Krabby Patties to a krabby patty processing and toybot factory. Upon arriving at the factory, A robot sucks up all the Krabby Patties, and Patrick unintentionally in the process. Spongebob chases after the robot, and eventually finds his way into the factory.

After finding his way through the factory, Spongebob finds Patrick vacuum-packed like a toy. After freeing Patrick, he meets Tak, who claims to have been abducted and scanned. They later find Timmy and Jimmy who also claim to have been abducted and scanned. They meet the Chad-Bot, a robot who is the Professor's helper. SpongeBob peers over at his sidewalk and sees a pile. He puts the blower into reverse, then sucks the pile of sand into the reef blower, which malfunctions. The sand and a few mechanical gears blow out. SpongeBob unzips the reef blower and puts the whole mess in by himself. When the reef blower refuses to start, SpongeBob pulls the cord back so far, that he gets yanked back fast through an intersection and it finally starts. Squidward nearly passes out. The reef blower then explodes, leaving piles of sand all over Squidward's property, and many other neighbors' property too, while SpongeBob's lawn is perfectly clean. Satisfied, SpongeBob goes back inside, while the shell lands on Squidward's nose.

He convinces the sponge to apply. Squidward, who is cleaning a window at the Krusty Krab, knows SpongeBob and is upset to see him come for a job. Squidward and Mr. Krabs, the owner of the restaurant, decide that he must prove himself first. He must fetch a "hydrodynamic spatula with port and starboard attachments, and a turbo drive. Mr. Krabs and Squidward laugh when he leaves, because Mr. Krabs just made that up off the top of his head. While SpongeBob finds the spatula at the local grocery store, the Krusty Krab has to contend with a large group of hundreds of hungry anchovies, who have no manners and make the restaurant a madhouse, and to compound the problem, without a fry cook. SpongeBob returns with the spatula and triumphantly feeds every last anchovy. He gets the job and Mr. Krabs starts counting his sack full of money. Unless you have been living in a cave the last few days you are aware of those wacky Christian Right nutjobs taking inexplicable swipes at the beloved cartoon character SpongeBob and the notion that we should all simply love and respect each other. What could possibly be wrong with that?

The answer, of course, is that the Mainstream Media has once again shown themselves to be completely inept in actually researching a story and attempting to behave as journalists. The reporting on this story has been little more than juvenile sneering and jeering from the sidelines while making no attempt to actually report what the story is about. Their lack of investigative and objective reporting is disgraceful as always, but perhaps not entirely unexpected. It has fallen instead to the world of bloggers, commentators and pundits to report what the media has chosen to bury, distort and ignore.

Despite the attempt by the his detractors to make this a Dr. Dobson vs. SpongeBob debate there is a little more to it than that. From the outset, let's be clear that this issue is not about objections to any specific cartoon characters. The Program provides faculty and staff with the training and resources needed to develop or modify comparative diversity courses."

A special DVD edition, accompanied by a teacher's guide, is slated to be distributed to 61,000 public and private elementary schools throughout the nation in a major push to encourage 'tolerance' and 'diversity.' On the surface this appears to most people as a harmless version of the old Biblical standard of 'loving thy neighbor' and that is exactly what the producers of this propaganda video and accompanying teacher's guide want you to believe. Proving that Nickelodeon knows how to "cross-platform" promote like a 21st century hybrid of PT Barnum and the Tasmanian Devil, lending the premiere of a new episode of a cartoon series about a walking-talking sanitation utensil with the pitched fervor of a Beatles reunion, last Friday night's half-hour special episode of SpongeBob SquarePants "Where's Gary" proved the highest-rated program on all of cable with kids 2-11 for 2005.

"Where's Gary" was the highest-rated episode of SpongeBob ever with kids 6-11, and was the third-placed program for the year on all of TV for kids 2-11, behind only the SuperBowl and SuperBowl kick-off broadcasts, which they weren't paying any attention to anyway. Almost 8 million total viewers tuned in to watch SpongeBob in his angsty adventure to find his beloved lost snail.

Regarding the cross-platform extravaganza, in addtion to almost endless on-air promos, which for the final day or so seemed to be on the Nick screen more than the shows they were interrupting, for the five days leading up to the "Where's Gary" premiere, kids were told to log on Nick.com to enter the SpongeBob SquarePants "Where's Gary?" Sweepstakes. Every night on the air, Patchy the Pirate (Tom Kenny) and guests searched locations across the globe for Gary. On Nick.com -- which also featured sneak previews of the show and a "Trail of the Snail" Flash game — kids entered Patchy's search locations in order to be eligible to win the sweepstakes.

Obviously it all paid off.

Unfortunately, the episode itself is rather wan and slack, notably lacking in the air of giddy zaniness that millions of men, women and, um, children so happily cleave to. All the ingredients are there: SpongeBob (Kenny) forgets to feed his pet snail for several days while attempting to meet the "Dirty Bubble Challenge" paddle-ball record. Gary, the meowing snail, becomes disillusioned and runs away from home. While living on the rough streets of downtown Bikini Bottom, the wayward mollusk is taken in by a strange but kindly old woman (SNL's Amy Poehler) who mistakes him for one of her other pets.

When SpongeBob realizes he has forgotten to care for Gary who is now missing, he sets out on a flyer-flining frenzy to find his beloved gastropod and return him home. Meanwhile, as Gary is wrapped in comfy blankets and indulged in an endless assortment of snacks and soothing patter, he makes a horrifying discovery in a closet of his new benefactor.

Except it doesn't really click: it's not bad — it's even grown on me a bit after three or four subsequent viewings forced on me by my children — but it doesn't flow with the funhouse logic of the classic series' best eps either. Perhaps the series, which first aired in 1999, has run out of steam, an especially pointed question now that creator Steve Hillenburg is no longer working on the show - but I'm not counting it out yet either.

The game’s story takes place on a tropical island known as Volcano Island. Volcano Island one day falls under attack by the evil Mawgu, a sinister being who aspires to take control of the peaceful island and eventually, the entire globe. Ancient legend however, foretells the arrival of the great Chosen Ones who are destined to stop Mawgu once and for all. As it just so happens, SpongeBob, and his said Nicktoon buddies, are the Chosen Ones and they set out to free the island from the clutches of Mawgu.

Like many other 'team' platform games, Battle for Volcano Island allows players to switch between any member of their party. This is where the DS version outshines the PlayStation 2 version as each character has their own unique abilities, and thus different gameplay mechanics. Timmy, being the only character who can double jump, is able reach high platforms and cross over wide chasms, while Danny has stronger melee attacks making him more suited to combat. As for SpongeBob, he can inflate his pants and slowly float to lower ledges that would otherwise be inaccessible. Unfortunately, it isn’t always obvious which character you need to switch to due to the game’s tendency to hide platforms and hazards. Needless to say, this often results in you through no fault of your own.

The game is played across both screens, and levels are broken up into two main areas: Field and Action. The Field area is where a bulk of the game takes place. Essentially, your main objective is to locate three jewels which will open a door to the Action area. In order to do this, you’ll have to explore the level and find weird animal-plant hybrid creatures who, upon being tapped with the stylus, will either spit out a jewel, a power-up item or a hazard. There are also 20 volcano coins scattered throughout the level which are used in conjunction with the game’s ranking system. The Action area plays similarly to the Field stage only the level is more linear, you don’t have to collect jewels, and it has a bigger emphasis on combat. For example, you could be walking down a seemingly bare pathway only to be ambushed by a group of enemies that you must defeat in order to proceed.

Bikini Atoll is the signature island above Bikini Bottom. The opening sequence of every episode of the show has the island shown right after Painty the Pirate (a painting) starts off the theme song. Sandy also dared SpongeBob, Patrick, Mr. Krabs, and Squidward to go on dry land here. Some episodes also start off and end with Bikini Atoll shown. To humans (like David Hasselhoff), the island also signals the way down to its aquatic counterpart. The place name is an ironic double-entendre, as the Bikini two piece swimsuit took its name from the atoll, specifically to the connection between the nuclear bomb test at Bikini around the time that the sexy new swimsuit hit the public "like a bomb".

There is a Bus Station and a Kandy Machine as well as restrooms (although foreigners cannot tell which is the men's room and which the women's due to the weird symbols used to mark them)

Marlin Cave is the residence of the weather magician of the sea which is difficult to access.

The Trench of Advanced Darkness is a trench that is lower than the city itself.

The cityscape of Bikini Bottom is divided into various districts, including Downtown Bikini Bottom, Goo Lagoon, Rock Bottom, Sand Mountain, Jellyfish Fields, Kelp Forest, the Flying Dutchman's Graveyard, Residents' Row (SpongeBob's / Patrick's / Squidward's homes), Make Out Reef, Ancient Mariner Valley (the location of Neptune's Paradise) and Palm Bay.

The city is divided by its main road, Conch Street, which runs from downtown and past the homes of SpongeBob, Squidward, and Patrick, through the Krusty Krab restaurant, the Chum Bucket and the Reef Theatre cinema. The road intersects with Barnacle Road and Coral Avenue. Anchor Way is not far off from Conch Street. Downtown Bikini Bottom is located in the northernmost point of the city, while SpongeBob, Squidward, and Patrick's House are on the southern part of the road. Goo Lagoon is located west of the road, while Jellyfish Fields is to the east. Other establishments are located more southerly, including Sandy's house, Shady Shoal's, the Krusty Krab, the Chum Bucket, and the Movie Theater. The Kelp Forest is located more southerly.

The County Line is the boundary of Bikini Bottom and it is very close to downtown Bikini Bottom. This is very fitting, given that it serves as the northernmost district of Bikini Bottom.

The skyline of Bikini Bottom is shown, features such as buildings, houses, and anchors can be seen. This is most likely Mr. Krabs's house. In earlier episodes of the series, a red flower arch can be seen, which now no longer appears in the skyline. The Sea Needle, which is the tallest point in Bikini Bottom, is oddly never seen in the skyline.

In the center of Bikini Bottom the citizens work and live in large, gray buildings made of metal. There are some other forms of buildings, mostly aquatic-themed as seen above. Further out from the town citizens need to use whatever is available and easy to live in, such as Patrick's rock, SpongeBob hollowed-out pineapple, and the stone monument Squidward lives in.

SpongeBob and friends travel to the lost city of Atlantis to look at the World's Oldest Bubble. Only SpongeBob could spin that premise into a reasonably compelling game.

Considering the innovative use of the Nintendo's dual screens we've already seen SpongeBob comes up short and feels padded-out with less than original ideas.

The crazy storyline and quirky band of characters will delight the kids, but this is an average game that fails to transcend the children's genre in the way SpongeBob traditionally has.

Virtual worlds are the new battlegrounds for toy manufacturers, kids TV channels and software companies with an eye on the youth market. It is the classic no-brainer. These days, kids are so into social networking sites that their parents have to get Bebo accounts just to call them down to dinner. The same kids are also into videogames and would probably be into Second Life if it wasn't aimed at over-18s. So, combine social networking, gaming and youth-friendly virtual living into one experience and you're practically mainlining your brand into the eyeballs of a whole generation.

This was doubtless what Disney was thinking last year when it bought child-friendly online community Club Penguin. It is certainly what Mattel had in mind when it set up Barbie Girls, an online community based around the popular dolls, which attracted 3 million users within 60 days of its launch. It's on more than 10 million now - impressive, but dwarfed by the massively multiplayer animal-rearing community Neopets and its 45 million pet owners.

Now Nickelodeon, which already has a virtual world in the shape of Nicktropolis, is expected to launch two more: one based in SpongeBob's universe, and another named Monkey World, an original IP. The former will be scarily huge, the latter will have its work cut out, with new kid-centric virtual worlds popping up seemingly on a daily basis.

What media companies love about virtual worlds is the opportunity to truly engage with the youth demographic on a symbiotic level. It's not about shouting at kids from a TV set any more; it's about creating a world for them, and then subtly loading it with messages. And hey, if you can't set up a virtual world, why not advertise in one? Social entertainment company Doppelganger has just signed a partnership with in-game advertising specialist Double Fusion, which will allow real-time targeted ads to appear in teen virtual world vSide.

Bikini Bottom Bubble Painting

You'll need bubble solution, blue and green food color, white paper, bubble blowing wands.

Add a few drops of food color into the bubble solution containers. A few bottles of Blue and a few bottles of green, depending on the number of children. Give each child a piece of white paper. Gently blow bubbles towards or onto the white paper. When the bubbles pop, they leave a really cool design on the paper. After the bubble solution dries you may want to add Spongebob character stickers to the paper to create your own Bikini Bottom scene.
TIPS:
Practice this technique before the party.
Food Color stains -- cover your work area.
Place the bubble painted pieces of paper in the sun for quick drying.

Sandra "Sandy" Cheeks''' is a female squirrel from Texas, She wears a deep sea diving suit while in the ocean, only removing it when inside her large underwater home and during the episodes "Pressure" and "Karate Island". This huge glass dome containing a grassy field and a large oak tree is sponsored by three scientists who also provide her with grants so she can invent mechanical devices. She is good-natured, very strong, extremely intelligent, and possesses basic common sense, which is generally lacking in Bikini Bottom. While Sandy is a multi-faceted genius possessed of advanced mathematics, Sport athletics, and science scientific skill, she is not above playfully sparring with Spongebob at karate or joining him at fun locales like Goo Lagoon. It is known that Sandy Hibernation|hibernates, but she seems to be able to put the need on hold for holidays. Sandy first appeared in Tea at the Treedome. Over the course of the series, Sandy is shown to be something of an adrenaline addict as well as being highly competitive. She is frequently shown practicing Karate with SpongeBob and practices several extreme sports, as shown in ''Pre-Hibernation Week''.

Mr. Eugene H. Krabs character

Mr. Crab or Eugene Harald Krabs, mostly referred to as Mr. Krabs, is the 64-year old owner and founder of the Krusty Krab restaurant and is SpongeBob and Squidward's boss. He is a crab, though his daughter Pearl is a sperm whale, that being a running joke throughout the series. Eugene is a nefarious penny-pincher and money hoarder. He often charges outrageous prices for poor-quality goods and foods, and takes advantage of every free product or service. His treatment of his staff is just as miserly; he is often seen violating minimum wage laws, all while working his two-man staff an inhumane number of hours. There have been, however, instances where he acts altruistically, thought these are exceedingly rare. In his youth, he served in the Navy, and retains many of the mannerisms and lingual habits of a sailor. His birthday is November 30th.

Squidward Tentacles

Squidward Tentacles who, despite is name, is said to be an octopus by the creators of the SpongeBob SquarePants, but refers to himself as a squid. He also has six appendages like some species of squid. Squidward is known in the series for his selfish and unenthusiastic personality and belief that he is better than his undersea neighbors as well everyone else in Bikini Bottom. Squidward generally uses two of his tentacles as arms and groups the other four into two pairs of legs. While his neighbors spongebob and Patrick are generally cheerful, Squidward is very pessimistic and unenthusiastic. He has a dry wit, and is constantly sarcastic. He is not very popular in Bikini Bottom due to his mean attitude toward other residents. Though he openly despises Spongebob and Patrick, they view him as a very close friend and cannot be convinced otherwise. However, it is worth noting that sometimes Squidward shows sympathy and even outright compassion towards SpongeBob. Squidward is an aspiring artist and most of his art is created in tribute to himself. He is also musician, with his instrument of choice being the clarinet. He is depicted as being poor at his artistic and musical efforts, despite having taken fine arts classes at Bikini Bottom Community College and teaching art at the community center.
